Battles

After a hundred years of peace, a Colossal Titan appears out of nowhere and kicks in Shiganshina's outer gate. Pure Titans flood the district as the population flees inward. An Armored Titan then destroys Wall Maria's inner gate, dooming the entire territory. Eren, Mikasa and Armin survive thanks to Hannes, but Carla Yeager is devoured before her son's eyes.

A year after the fall of Wall Maria, the government sends most of the refugees on a supposed offensive to reclaim the lost territory. In reality, the goal is to reduce the population amid the food shortage. Only a handful of people return alive. Among the dead is Armin's grandfather.

Five years after Shiganshina, the Colossal Titan reappears and breaches Trost's gate. The newly graduated cadets of the 104th are trapped in the district and suffer heavy casualties. Eren is devoured, but emerges as a Titan and his power is discovered. Commander Pixis uses him to plug the breach with a giant boulder, and humanity wins its first victory.

Erwin uses the first expedition after Trost to set a trap for the spy hidden among the soldiers. The Female Titan cuts through the formation looking for Eren and causes enormous casualties. In the forest, Erwin's plan immobilizes her, but she escapes by calling other Titans. She then wipes out Levi's squad and nearly captures Eren, until Levi and Mikasa rescue him.

Armin deduces that the Female Titan is Annie Leonhart, now in the Military Police. During Eren's transfer to the capital, the Survey Corps tries to capture her in Stohess. Annie transforms and her fight with Eren wrecks the district. Eren defeats her, but she encases herself in crystal; in addition, a Titan is discovered inside the Wall.

Titans appear inside Wall Rose with no breach. Mike sacrifices his squad to warn the population and is devoured after encountering a talking Beast Titan. The 104th recruits are besieged in Utgard Castle and, to save them, Ymir reveals herself as a Titan. On their return, Reiner and Bertholdt confess to being the Armored and the Colossal.

The Survey Corps pursues the Armored Titan to the Forest of Giant Trees. Erwin launches a desperate charge, luring a horde of Titans against the Warriors. In the confusion, Mikasa and Armin recover Eren, and Erwin loses an arm. On the brink of defeat, Eren strikes a Titan and activates a power that makes the Titans attack his enemies.

The central government declares the Survey Corps outlaws and tries to capture Eren and Historia. Kenny Ackerman's Anti-Personnel Control Squad, armed with special gear, hunts the scouts. Levi and his squad are forced to kill other humans. Meanwhile, Erwin and Zackly organize a bloodless coup that overthrows the false king.

In the cavern beneath the Reiss chapel, Rod wants Historia to devour Eren to reclaim the Founder's power. Historia refuses, and Rod ingests the serum himself, becoming a gigantic Titan. Eren, using a vial labeled Armor, hardens himself and prevents the collapse. At Orvud, Historia deals the final blow to Rod's Titan and is proclaimed queen.

The Survey Corps sets out to seal Shiganshina and reach Grisha Yeager's basement. The Warriors ambush them: the Beast Titan surrounds the soldiers with Titans and Bertholdt razes the city. Erwin leads the recruits in a suicide charge so that Levi can kill the Beast. Armin sacrifices himself to defeat the Colossal, and Levi then saves him with the injection instead of Erwin.

After four years of war, Marley attacks the coastal fortress of Slava. Eldian soldiers, among them Gabi and Falco, advance through the trenches as cannon fodder. Gabi destroys the armored train with explosives and lets the Titans in. The Beast Titan devastates the enemy fleet from the air, but the battle shows that artillery is starting to rival the Titans.

During Willy Tybur's speech declaring war on Paradis, Eren transforms in the middle of the Liberio internment zone. He kills Willy and fights the War Hammer Titan while the Survey Corps attacks the Warriors. With Mikasa's help, Eren obtains the War Hammer's power by devouring Lara Tybur. During the escape, Gabi sneaks aboard the airship and kills Sasha.

After Liberio, Eren is imprisoned and Zeke is kept under guard far from the Walls. The Yeagerists assassinate Zackly with a bomb and free Eren. Using the wine laced with Zeke's spinal fluid, they gain control over much of the military. Eren meets up with Zeke to carry out his plan, while Levi and Hange are left isolated.

Marley launches a surprise air attack on Shiganshina to capture Eren. Eren and Zeke try to reach each other to make contact, while Reiner, Pieck and Porco attack him. Zeke's scream turns those who drank his spinal fluid into Titans, including Falco. When Gabi decapitates Eren, he touches Zeke and enters the Paths, where he convinces Ymir Fritz and activates the Rumbling.

Eren frees the Colossal Titans within the Walls and marches to raze the world outside Paradis. Armies try to stop him but are trampled. On Paradis, the Titans created by Zeke's scream are eliminated, among them Pixis and Nile. Former enemies form an alliance to stop him before the whole world is destroyed.

The alliance reaches the port of Odiha to prepare Kiyomi's flying boat. They clash with the Yeagerists, who already hold the port, and Floch tries to sabotage the plane. When the Titans of the Rumbling arrive, Hange stays behind to slow them down. Magath and Shadis sacrifice their lives to destroy the Marleyan ship.

The alliance catches up with Eren near Fort Salta, Marley's last bastion. Eren resurrects the Titans of the past against them. Zeke comes to his senses and Levi decapitates him. Mikasa kills Eren and Ymir's curse comes to an end.
