Chapter 40: Ymir

Out of gas, Nanaba and Gelgar are devoured before the recruits, who lose hope atop the tower. Ymir recalls a snowy training exercise in which Christa dragged Daz and Ymir carried him down a cliff, and she made Christa promise that, if Ymir revealed her secret, Christa would live under her real name. To protect her comrades, Ymir leaps from the tower with a knife and transforms into a Titan. Reiner and Bertolt recognize her as the Titan that devoured their friend Marcel years earlier.
